Crux Bake and Blend stand mixer review

Crux is a brand you may not be familiar with, but their kettles, toasters and kitchen essentials are well-made and suited to heavier use. This stand mixer has 1200W of power and could cope with everything from gentle folding to heavy dough kneading.

We liked the two-tone dark grey and rose gold styling, which would make a statement in any kitchen. The other products in the range share that colourway, too.

This model’s USP is that it blends; this is the only model we tested that offers smoothie-blending, sauce-whizzing attachments for differing temperatures. These slotted into the top of the casing and offered eight speed settings.

It was quite noisy on high-speed but coped well with fibrous veggie soups, smoothies and ice-heavy daquiris.

As for the mixer itself, we used the pulse function a lot, as it made getting perfect results easy. The controls, operated via a chunky dial, had eight further speed settings covering everything from a gentle fold to a high-speed whip.

The stainless steel bowl is good quality and at a jumbo 5.5-litre capacity, more than capable of mixing enough cake batter for three sponge layers. It’s the biggest we tested.

We particularly liked the planetary action of this model, meaning that any mixture on the sides of the bowl was soon brought into the mix. The splash guard felt good quality, covering more of the bowl than most other models we looked at.

Where the Crux Bake and Blend does fall down, is its size. You’re going to need plenty of space above the worktop, especially with the blender jug attached. It’s also on the heavy side, as is the glass jug, so it’s best left on display rather than moved in and out of a cupboard.

If you don't have the space to leave it out, and have more use for a blender than a mixer, we'd stick to seperate machines. Your back will thank you for it.
